Finally Baptisms
Another week has came and gone on the mish and stuff is finally starting to happen.
Last Pday we played baseball with the entire zone. Me and the lz on the other team started making bets as to who would win. Long story short I slid into home running full sprint for the game winning point. Looking back on it, it probally wasn't worth peeling half the skin off my leg, but at least I didn't lose haha. That was definitely the worst part of this week was trying to keep road rash clean and dry in the 90 degree 80% humidity weather but we made it.
This week was a grind. My area CASA AMARELLA has been struggling with finding good people who are likely to progress to baptism. Its usually easy to teach lessons and get peoples numbers for a follow up appointment, but its super hard to tell if theyre interested or just not wanting to turn you down. Anyway my comp and I found 32 people this week and marked 10 people for baptism in the next three weeks.
Sunday we had two baptisms of Diogo and Vallenson. I have taught them a ton of division and it has been awesome to see them progress in the gospel. As we went to open the baptismal font, the water had slowly drained to about knee height, that didnt stop us though. They got baptized and their backs touched the ground as the went into the water.
This week I had an awesome opportunity to confirm Diogo after his baptism. It was awesome how he felt after the baptism as well. This moment was definitely one of the most spiritual moments of my life and definitely the most spirtual moment on my mission. I definitely was nervous about confirming someone in portuguese and felt super inadequate, but the spirit help me to do it. Despite struggling with portuguese for the last two months, I was pretty much fluent during the confirmation and words were coming out of my mouth before I had time to think about what I was saying.
That leads me to a spirtual thought I have been studying this week. Before I left on my mission my bishop shared this quote with me which I thought was true, but now I know it is. President Monson said "Do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle." This joined with the scripture 1 Nephi 3:7, "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them," gives us reassurance that we can accomplish all things through gods power. No matter what we struggle with, feel inadequate about, or seems impossible can always be accomplished when we turn to the lord. The purpose of our lives is to be tested and to be better, and God will always help us with what task he has given us.
